Another Pretentious OC Soccer Mom

I'm embarrassed to tell people I live in Orange County. Not only is it a hotbed of Republican cretinism and a mecca of gaudy materialism, it is home to The Real Housewives of Orange County, which, by far, is the saddest commentary of OC society.

This 911 phone call cements my feelings of embarrassment.

A Good Idea

Today, I read something that, at first, shocked me; but then had me agreeing with it:

The former head of China's Food and Drug Administration, found guilty of taking bribes to licence fake drugs, has been executed.

Can you imagine if we imposed a sentence like that on our corrupt and dishonest government leaders?

I'm sorry, President Bush. You lied about those weapons of mass destruction in Iraq which resulted in the murder of almost 4,000 American nationals. We will be executing you tomorrow.

Government leaders would think twice before defrauding their constituency. Ethical decision making would return to the administration. Bureaucracy would dwindle. It would be good times!

But you and I both know it would never become reality here. There is way too much corruption. Heck, we can't even get House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a staunch opponent of George Bush, to introduce Articles of Impeachment. I wonder what he paid to buy her inaction?

You can read the entire execution article here.

When in the Course of human events...

Here is an excerpt from a letter I received from Shane Cory, Executive Director, Libertarian National Committee:

"Throughout the year I take the time to go back to what remains, a beautiful and undoubtedly libertarian document, the Declaration of Independence."

"Two hundred and thirty one years ago, our founding fathers knew the true meaning of liberty. They understood that upon our first moment of life, rights were endowed upon us. They were not granted by a government or agreed upon by a legislature and they are not to be infringed."

"Our founding fathers "got it", their eyes were opened through study and understanding of their life and government . . . how it should be and how it should not be."

"Each time I read through the transcript of the Declaration of Independence, I'm struck with emotions of pride in the wisdom of our founding fathers and gratitude for their actions. Each time I read those words I am immediately inspired and motivated; but recently, as my understanding increases, I'm also struck with sadness."

"My friend, a stark contrast exists between the Americans of today and those of 1776. Today, many fail to understand not only the purpose of government, they fail to realize that those "certain unalienable Rights" are not simple things that have been granted by the government."

"Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness are among OUR rights that are to be secured and protected by the government."

"Many Americans today also fail to realize that the government's powers are to be granted by the consent of the governed. Even worse, our government and our modern leaders fail to recognize this and as a result, abuses of power are assured."

"If you can, take some time today and read through the Declaration of Independence and be happy that our nation is built upon such a solid and libertarian foundation."

"While we have a great deal of work to do to get back to the original intent that was expressed in 1776, we will eventually get there through our work and dedication to those principles."

I urge you to adopt Mr. Cory's practice of periodically revisiting the Declaration of Independence and keep liberty a right we enjoy.

An open letter to Mike Tyson

Mike,

It was good to see you on Sunday at Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles. My family enjoyed your company as you scowled at us throughout the meal. Perhaps our skin color was not to your liking. Or perhaps you didn't like my nine year old pointing at that facial deformity you call a tattoo. Either way, it was still an honor to be in your presence.

Speaking of presence, I like the way you chose a seat that gave every patron in the restaurant a view of you. I could tell you enjoyed the attention. Too bad no one came up to you to shake your hand. That would have really given you the ego boost you were looking for; especially on your birthday weekend.

I could see why you're not in the best of shape these days. Two waffles and half of a fried chicken is a lot of calories to take in at one meal. And I'm sure the sugar you added to your Lisa's Delight didn't help your waistline either. Looking at the size of your belly, I'm surprised you tucked in your blue silk shirt. I would have worn it out.

Oh, and as you sat there gnawing on your chicken, sucking every bit of meat, skin and cartilage clean off the bone, I wondered what Evander's ear tasted like. You sure went to work on that chicken leg. Maybe, for a second there, you were reliving that moment in the ring with Evander?

After you left, it occurred to me; I had never dined with a convicted rapist before. Thank you for that bestowal. I can check that off my list of life accomplishments.

Well, Mike, I must bring this open letter to a close. Take care of yourself. And thank you for not eating my children.

Jon

Micheal Moore is truely a voice of reason

Michael Moore's new documentary, SiCKO, should be required viewing for anyone claiming to be a patriotic American. So, per Michael Moore himself, I am offering the movie for your viewing pleasure. You will need the DivX Codec 6.6.1 to watch the movie.

Let me know what you think of the movie. Also, please make suggestions on what we can do to change our health care system.

Lastly, feel free to link to this post. The more people who see this film, the better chance we have of reforming our health care system.

Is it me, or was May 1 an excellent day?

I must admit, I enjoyed yesterday a lot. Traffic was light. Everyone I spoke with did so in clear, fluent English. My fast food never tasted better. And the line at DMV was only three deep. Is this how wonderful life would be if we booted those illegal aliens?

Associated Press estimates there are 12 million illegal aliens in the United States with the largest concentration of 1 million calling Los Angeles home. That’s 25% of the city’s population! Imagine, for a moment, those 1 million illegal aliens were gone… shorter lines… less traffic… feels good, doesn’t it! Wouldn’t it be nice to make it home in time to have dinner WITH the family?

In fiscal year 2006, federal immigration officials deported 195,024 illegal immigrants nationwide, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement data. Six months into the current fiscal year, 125,405 have already been deported. I’m glad ICE is stepping things up, but am disappointed by their performance yesterday. Weren’t they aware of the protests that were being held? They could have easily set up immigration check points near the rally areas and nabbed 50 or 100 thousand illegal aliens nationwide. Except for Atlanta, where no rallies were planned because many immigrants were afraid of the raids and of a new state law set to take effect in July. The law requires verification that adults seeking non-emergency state-administered benefits are in the country legally, sanctions employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants, and requires police to check the immigration status of people they arrest. Glory, halleluiah! Bring that legislation to California!

I’m guessing commuter traffic in Atlanta was unchanged.

I like this quote by Roberto Organo, an illegal immigrant from Mexico who said he has lived in the U.S. for 15 years. "We are not criminals. We are looking for work to support our families. It's OK for government to enforce the law but they have to give us a chance."

Hmmmmmmm… Does Roberto mean the same chance my grandfather had when he came to the United States… legally… in 1903? Does Roberto mean going through the same administrative process my grandmother did in 1900? Is Roberto referring to the same hard work and dedication my grandparents exhibited while they traveled the path to United States citizenship? No, because Roberto is a cheater. Roberto does not want to follow the law. Roberto could have easily joined in one of the seven illegal immigrant amnesties granted by the United States since 1986; the most recent of which was in 2000 for an estimated 900,000 illegal aliens. No, Roberto is a selfish prick and would rather steal from the coffers of the United States.

Yes, Roberto, you are a criminal. And thank you for your approval to enforce our immigration laws. I hope ICE catches up with you real soon.
